Hybrid Simulator
The software signal simulator (SGSS-DF-001-01) generates a data file containing GPS signal samples, and stores up to several hours of them, sample-by-sample, in a large hard disk-based data storage unit (DAAS-HD-00X-0X). It can transfer these samples at high speeds in real time. When users play these samples back through DACs and upconverters, it generates live RF signals at L1, L2, and other frequencies.
This approach combines the advantages of software simulators with live RF signals. Users can create more complex conditions than possible with conventional real-time simulators, but they can’t integrate these with the hardware-in-the-loop simulation. Users have to perform “scene generation” beforehand.
The hybrid simulator uses software signal simulation and a data storage unit we have developed. These data storage units can record, store, and play back several terabytes of data at speeds up to 240 MBps. The hybrid simulator generates high-fidelity navigation signals for CA, P, and M-codes, as well as some Galileo signals. It allows complex wavefronts under high dynamics (suitable for phase array and GPS/INS systems) under varying environments (multipath, jamming, ionospheric scintillation, and plasma effects). The ability to synchronize multiple units means unlimited flexibility and vertical upgrade.
